Baby & Mother Care: Essential Health Products for New Parents
The first few months bring a steep learning curve
New parents are often overwhelmed by the sheer number of baby care products available. Here's a simple way to think about what actually matters in the first year.
Feeding and nutrition
Whether breastfeeding, formula feeding, or a combination, having the right feeding accessories — properly sterilised bottles, a reliable formula if needed, and age-appropriate weaning foods from around six months — makes daily feeding far less stressful. Always check formula and baby food expiry dates and storage instructions carefully.
Hygiene essentials
Diapers and wipes are the most frequently repurchased items in the first two years, and skin sensitivity varies a lot between babies — it's worth trying a small pack of a new brand before switching entirely, to check for any rash reaction. Mild, fragrance-free baby washes are generally gentler on newborn skin than adult products.
Common early health concerns
Mild fever, gas, and minor rashes are extremely common in infancy. Baby-specific fever and pain relief should always be dosed according to weight, not age alone, and any fever in an infant under three months should be assessed by a doctor promptly rather than managed at home.
Mother's own recovery
Postpartum recovery products — supplements, maternity care items, and mother-specific hygiene products — are just as important as newborn care and are often overlooked in the rush to prepare for the baby.
