xWhat Is Afdol Tablets 10mg?
Afdol Tablets 10mg contain Memantine Hydrochloride, made by AGP Pharma, Pakistan. Memantine is used to treat the symptoms of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. Each pack contains 14 tablets. This medicine requires a prescription.
How It Works
Memantine is an NMDA receptor antagonist. In Alzheimer's disease, excess activity of the brain chemical glutamate can damage nerve cells. Memantine blocks this overactivity, which can help with memory, thinking and the ability to carry out daily activities. It does not cure the disease.
Uses
Symptomatic treatment of moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type. In more advanced cases it is often prescribed together with donepezil.
Dosage
Treatment is started slowly to reduce side effects. A typical schedule begins at 5mg daily and increases by 5mg each week, reaching the usual maintenance dose of 20mg daily from week four. Patients with reduced kidney function may need a lower dose. Take at the same time each day, with or without food, exactly as your doctor prescribes.
Side Effects
Common effects include dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness and raised blood pressure. Less often, confusion, tiredness, hallucinations or unsteady walking may occur. Seizures are rare.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about any history of seizures, heart disease, high blood pressure or kidney problems. Avoid combining with amantadine, ketamine or dextromethorphan unless advised. Large changes in diet that make urine more alkaline (for example a sudden switch to a strict vegetarian diet) can affect memantine levels. Store below 25°C, away from light and moisture.
