xWhat Is Azomax Suspension 200mg/5ml (15ml)?
Azomax Suspension contains Azithromycin 200mg per 5ml, made by Sandoz, in a 15ml bottle. It is a once-daily antibiotic syrup for children. This medicine requires a prescription.
How It Works
Azithromycin, a macrolide, prevents bacteria from making the proteins they need to survive, and its long action in tissues allows 3-day courses.
Uses
Ear infections, sore throat and tonsillitis, sinusitis, chest infections, skin infections and typhoid in children, as prescribed.
Dosage and Preparation
Add water as instructed and shake well. A usual course is 10mg/kg once daily for 3 days, measured with the dosing device provided. The 15ml bottle suits smaller children; a 25ml bottle is available for larger doses.
Side Effects
Loose stools, vomiting, stomach ache and rash. Contact a doctor for persistent diarrhoea or allergic signs.
Precautions
Do not give to children allergic to macrolide antibiotics. Use with care in liver disease and heart rhythm conditions. Keep antacids apart from doses.
Common Questions
What if my child vomits a dose? If within 30 minutes, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether to repeat it.
Does it need refrigeration? Usually not; follow storage instructions on the pack.
