Acicon 60ml Suspension contains Famotidine at a strength of 10mg per 5ml, manufactured by Barrett Hodgson Pakistan. This liquid formulation reduces stomach acid production in conditions such as peptic ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and suits children or anyone who has difficulty swallowing tablets.
Famotidine is an H2-receptor antagonist that blocks histamine's action on acid-producing cells in the stomach lining, reducing the volume and acidity of gastric secretions and allowing irritated or ulcerated tissue to heal.
Dosing depends on age, weight, and indication. In children, gastroesophageal reflux disease is typically dosed by body weight (around 0.5mg/kg once or twice daily depending on age), while peptic ulcer dosing in children aged 1-16 is generally around 0.5mg/kg/day at bedtime or in divided doses. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions and use the measuring device provided.
Possible side effects include headache, dizziness, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, and dry mouth. Less commonly, irregular heartbeat, muscle or joint pain, mood changes, or sleep disturbances have been reported.
Famotidine can interact with drugs such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, probenecid, sucralfate, warfarin, and theophylline. In patients with duodenal or gastric ulcers, doctors may test for H. pylori infection, since eradication therapy is often needed alongside acid suppression. Dose adjustment may be needed in patients with kidney impairment.
