Acicon Tablets 40mg contain Famotidine, manufactured by Barrett Hodgson Pakistan. This higher-strength tablet reduces stomach acid production for conditions such as benign gastric and duodenal ulcers, erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Famotidine is an H2-receptor antagonist that blocks histamine's action on acid-producing cells in the stomach lining, reducing the volume and acidity of gastric secretions and allowing irritated or ulcerated tissue to heal.
For benign gastric and duodenal ulcers, the typical adult dose is 40mg once daily at night for 4-8 weeks. For erosive GERD, 40mg twice daily for 6-12 weeks is common, while Zollinger-Ellison syndrome may require higher, individualized doses. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions.
Possible side effects include headache, dizziness, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, and dry mouth. Less commonly, irregular heartbeat, muscle or joint pain, mood changes, or sleep disturbances have been reported.
Famotidine can interact with drugs such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, probenecid, sucralfate, warfarin, and theophylline. Since it can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, your doctor may recommend testing for H. pylori infection before starting therapy. Dose adjustment may be needed in patients with kidney impairment.
