Amaryl Tablets 2mg contain Glimepiride 2mg, a once-daily sulfonylurea made by Sanofi-Aventis Pakistan for adults with type 2 diabetes. This medicine requires a prescription.
Glimepiride prompts the pancreas to release more insulin and helps the body use insulin more effectively, bringing blood sugar down.
Control of blood sugar in type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise are not enough, alone or combined with metformin or insulin.
One tablet once a day with breakfast or the first main meal, as prescribed. Doctors usually start at 1mg and increase gradually; the usual maximum is 6mg daily. Do not skip meals after your dose.
Low blood sugar is the most important side effect (sweating, trembling, hunger, palpitations, confusion). Keep sugar or glucose tablets with you. Nausea, stomach discomfort, weight gain, rash and, rarely, changes in blood counts or liver tests may occur.
Not for type 1 diabetes. Use with care in kidney or liver disease, the elderly and people with G6PD deficiency. Alcohol, missed meals and some medicines raise hypoglycaemia risk. Check blood sugar regularly. Not for use in pregnancy. Store below 30°C.
What happens if I miss a dose of Amaryl? Take it with your next meal the same day if you remember soon; never take two doses together.
Is Amaryl the same as glimepiride? Yes, Amaryl is Sanofi's original brand of glimepiride.
