Amoxi-Clav 625mg tablets, made by Sandoz, contain Amoxicillin 500mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg. It is a widely used adult antibiotic for common bacterial infections. This medicine requires a prescription.
Amoxicillin stops bacteria building their cell walls, which kills them. Clavulanic acid blocks beta-lactamase enzymes that some bacteria use to resist amoxicillin.
Respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), ear and throat infections, urinary tract infections, dental abscesses, and infections of the skin, bones and joints.
Typically one tablet three times a day (every 8 hours) at the start of meals, for the length of course your doctor prescribes. Swallow whole with water. Do not stop early. For twice-daily dosing, Amclav 1g (875/125mg) is an alternative strength.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, thrush and skin rash. Rarely, liver inflammation or severe allergic reactions occur; seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, swelling or yellowing skin.
Avoid if allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins, or with past jaundice from co-amoxiclav. Tell your doctor about liver or kidney problems and blood-thinning medicines. Store in a dry place below 25°C.
What does 625 mean? It is the total of 500mg amoxicillin and 125mg clavulanic acid.
Should I take it with food? Yes, at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset and improve absorption of clavulanic acid.
