xWhat Is Augmentin Tablets 375mg?
Augmentin 375mg tablets, by GlaxoSmithKline, contain Amoxicillin 250mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg. It is the lower-strength co-amoxiclav tablet for milder infections or older children. This medicine requires a prescription.
How It Works
Amoxicillin, a penicillin, kills bacteria; clavulanic acid prevents resistant bacteria from destroying it.
Uses
Mild to moderate infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, urinary tract, skin and teeth in adults and children able to swallow tablets.
Dosage
Usually one tablet three times daily at the start of meals, as prescribed. Two 375mg tablets are not equivalent to one 625mg tablet because they contain more clavulanic acid, so do not substitute without advice.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, thrush and rash. Get urgent help for allergic reactions or severe diarrhoea.
Precautions
Not for penicillin allergy or past co-amoxiclav jaundice. Caution with liver or kidney disease. Store in a dry place below 25°C.
Common Questions
Why not take two 375mg instead of a 625mg? It would double the clavulanic acid and increase stomach side effects.
Is 375mg suitable for children? It may be prescribed for older children who can swallow tablets; younger children use suspensions such as Augmentin suspension.
