Azomax 250 capsules contain Azithromycin 250mg, made by Sandoz. This medicine requires a prescription.
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that stops bacteria producing essential proteins. Its long tissue half-life allows short courses of 3 to 5 days.
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections, ear and throat infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and some sexually transmitted infections.
A typical adult course is 500mg (two capsules) on day one, then 250mg once daily for four more days, or as prescribed. Capsules are best taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food.
Nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, headache and rash. Rarely, liver inflammation, hearing changes or irregular heartbeat.
Avoid with macrolide allergy. Caution in liver disease, heart rhythm problems and with QT-prolonging medicines, warfarin or digoxin. Separate from antacids.
Should Azomax capsules be taken with food? Capsules are usually taken on an empty stomach for best absorption.
Higher strength? Azomax 500.
