Amclav 156.25mg/5ml is a children's antibiotic suspension made by Getz Pharma, Pakistan. Each 5ml contains Amoxicillin 125mg and Clavulanic Acid 31.25mg (co-amoxiclav). The bottle makes 60ml after mixing. This medicine requires a prescription.
Amoxicillin kills bacteria by stopping them building their cell walls. Some bacteria make an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that destroys amoxicillin; clavulanic acid blocks that enzyme so the antibiotic keeps working.
Bacterial infections in children such as middle ear infections, sinusitis, tonsillitis, chest infections, urinary tract infections and skin infections, when prescribed by a doctor.
Add the stated amount of boiled, cooled water, shake well and use the measuring cup or syringe provided. The dose is calculated by the doctor from the child's weight, usually given every 8 hours. Give at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset. Finish the full course even if your child feels better. Store the mixed suspension in the fridge and discard after 7 days. A stronger option is Amclav DS 312.5mg/5ml.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, nappy rash and oral thrush. Seek medical help for severe or bloody diarrhoea, widespread rash, swelling or breathing difficulty.
Do not use if your child is allergic to penicillin or has had jaundice or liver problems with co-amoxiclav before. Tell the doctor about any other allergies or kidney problems.
Is Amclav the same as Augmentin? Both contain amoxicillin with clavulanic acid; they are different brands.
How long is mixed Amclav good for? Usually 7 days in the refrigerator.
