Amoxil Suspension contains Amoxicillin 125mg in every 5ml, made by GlaxoSmithKline Pakistan, in a 90ml bottle. It is a commonly prescribed antibiotic syrup for children. This medicine requires a prescription.
Amoxicillin belongs to the penicillin family. It interferes with bacterial cell-wall formation, causing susceptible bacteria to die.
Ear infections (otitis media), tonsillitis and throat infections, sinusitis, chest infections, urinary tract infections and some skin infections in children.
Mix with boiled and cooled water up to the line and shake well before each dose. Doses depend on age and weight and are usually given every 8 hours, before or after food. Use the measuring cup provided. Finish the full course. Store the mixed suspension in a refrigerator and use within 7 to 14 days as printed on the pack. For infants, Amoxil Paediatric Drops are available.
Diarrhoea, nausea, rash and thrush. Stop and seek help for severe allergic reactions (swelling, difficulty breathing) or bloody diarrhoea.
Not for children allergic to penicillins. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or glandular fever, as rash is more likely. Contains sugar, which may matter for diabetic children.
How many days should Amoxil be given? Usually 5 to 7 days, or as your doctor prescribes.
What if my child vomits after a dose? If within 30 minutes, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether to repeat it.
