xWhat Is Amoxil Capsules 250mg?
Amoxil Capsules 250mg contain Amoxicillin 250mg, made by GlaxoSmithKline Pakistan. Amoxicillin is one of the most widely used penicillin antibiotics. This medicine requires a prescription.
How It Works
It stops bacteria building their cell walls, so they burst and die. It works against many common bacteria in the ear, nose, throat, chest and urinary tract.
Uses
- Throat, ear and sinus infections
- Bronchitis and pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections
- Dental infections
- As part of H. pylori treatment for stomach ulcers, with other medicines
Dosage
Commonly 250mg to 500mg three times a day for adults, depending on the infection; lower doses may be used for older children. Swallow capsules whole with water, with or without food. Take the full course. For the higher dose, see Amoxil 500mg.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, skin rash and thrush. Seek urgent care for an allergic reaction such as hives, wheezing or swelling.
Precautions
Do not take if allergic to penicillin. Tell your doctor about kidney disease, glandular fever, or if you take methotrexate or warfarin. Store below 25°C.
Common Questions
Is amoxicillin good for a sore throat? Only for bacterial throat infections confirmed or suspected by a doctor; most sore throats are viral.
Can I drink milk with Amoxil? Yes, food and milk do not affect amoxicillin significantly.
