xWhat Is Amoxil Capsules 500mg?
Amoxil Capsules 500mg contain Amoxicillin 500mg, made by GlaxoSmithKline Pakistan. It is the standard adult strength of this penicillin antibiotic. This medicine requires a prescription.
How It Works
Amoxicillin blocks the enzymes bacteria use to build their cell walls, leading to bacterial death. It is effective against many streptococci, some staphylococci and common respiratory and urinary bacteria.
Uses
Adult infections of the ear, sinuses, throat and chest, urinary tract infections, skin infections, dental abscesses and, in combination with other medicines, eradication of H. pylori.
Dosage
Typically 500mg every 8 hours, or up to 1g in more serious infections, as prescribed. For H. pylori, 1g twice daily with other medicines for 7 to 14 days. Swallow whole with water, with or without food. Complete the course even if you feel better sooner. A lower strength, Amoxil 250mg, is also available.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, rash, and thrush (oral or vaginal). Rare but serious: severe allergic reaction or bloody diarrhoea; seek urgent care.
Precautions
Avoid if allergic to penicillin. Inform your doctor about kidney disease, glandular fever (high rash risk), and medicines such as methotrexate, warfarin or allopurinol. Store below 25°C, away from moisture.
