xWhat Is Augmentin BD Suspension 457mg/5ml (70ml)?
Augmentin BD 70ml is the larger bottle of GlaxoSmithKline's twice-daily co-amoxiclav suspension. Each 5ml contains Amoxicillin 400mg and Clavulanic Acid 57mg, enough for longer courses or older children. This medicine requires a prescription.
How It Works
The penicillin antibiotic amoxicillin kills bacteria, while clavulanic acid stops resistant bacteria from breaking it down.
Uses
Otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections and skin and soft tissue infections in children.
Dosage and Preparation
Mix with cooled boiled water to the line, shake well, and give every 12 hours with food at the weight-based dose prescribed. Complete the course. Refrigerate after mixing and discard after 7 days. A smaller 35ml bottle is also available.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash and oral or nappy thrush. Seek medical help for hives, swelling or severe diarrhoea.
Precautions
Not for children with penicillin allergy or previous co-amoxiclav jaundice. Caution in kidney impairment.
