xWhat Is Augmentin Tablets 1g?
Augmentin 1g tablets, by GlaxoSmithKline, contain Amoxicillin 875mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg. It is the twice-daily adult strength of the original co-amoxiclav brand. This medicine requires a prescription.
How It Works
Amoxicillin kills bacteria by blocking cell-wall synthesis; clavulanic acid inactivates beta-lactamase enzymes so resistant bacteria are also killed.
Uses
Sinusitis, otitis media, community-acquired pneumonia, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, urinary tract infections, skin, soft tissue, dental, bone and joint infections.
Dosage
Adults and children over 40kg: one tablet every 12 hours at the start of a meal, typically for 5 to 14 days as prescribed. Swallow whole with water. Complete the course.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, thrush and rash. Rarely, liver inflammation (yellow skin or eyes, dark urine) or severe allergic reactions; seek urgent care.
Precautions
Avoid with penicillin allergy or past co-amoxiclav jaundice. Caution in liver or kidney disease, with warfarin and methotrexate. Store below 25°C in a dry place.
